I know this news is now all over the place but because it's so special I wanted to note it in my own LJ. Ever since the last LOTR film I've had a strong gut feeling that one day we'd see Elijah in his role as Frodo again. I always held back from actually saying this, knowing that I'd probably jinx it!! Sometimes I wondered if it was just wishful thinking but when, some time ago, it was rumoured that there would be a film bridging LOTR and 'The Hobbit' in which Frodo would be included, I was over the moon. When all that fell through I really couldn't believe it, and yet that feeling was still there. So, as you can imagine, with the news that Elijah has now been confirmed for a part in the film, I feel not only joyful but very relieved. I know that Frodo, not being part of the actual story, can only be featured in a small way but PJ's heart-warming statement below pinpoints the reasson I could never drum up much interest in 'The Hobbit' until now. Like PJ, I really couldn't envisage the filmmakers returning to Middle Earth without Elijah - it just didn't seem right:

"Elijah Wood (“The Lord of The Rings” trilogy, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”) will be returning to play Frodo Baggins the young cousin of Bilbo Baggins and Andy Serkis (“The Lord of The Rings” trilogy, “King Kong”) will be returning to play the character Gollum.
Peter Jackson welcomed the two back.”I cannot imagine returning to Middle-earth without these two wonderful actors. We began this journey together ten years ago and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with Eiljah and Andy again.”

It's a long wait but I shall enjoy the anticipation:)

Absolutely! This is the best news and I can't believe that we get the chance to see his return! News from the filming will be extra-special, knowing he'll be going there and seeing all the old gang. PJ's words express what every Elijah fan feels. *hugs*

eek! Bite your tongue, Patrick. LOL I still haven't read all of the original "Journey." I don't know where the time goes. There are never enough hours in the day for me.

Middle-earth without Frodo has always seemed all wrong to me, so this has to be the best news of the decade!! I missed all the anticipation the last time around, so believe me i'm going to make the most of every single second.

I don't blame you! He may only be included in a small way but the thought of him not being involved at all was unbearable to me:)

I think it's marvelous that PJ is figuring out ways to bring back beloved actors. I read today that even Christopher Lee may be back. Woot!

PJ rocks! What more can I say.

It's wonderful news! And I think it would be lovely if they could somehow figure a way to include a cameo for Ian Holm - though I can't really imagine how they'd be able to do that:)

They are! Someone on LJ posted a link to an article that mentioned it. I read it last night, but don't recall who posted it. If it's really true, I'm sure more will be said about it soon.

I only wish he was going to play Bilbo so he'd be in the whole movie! But beggars can't be choosers. ;-)

I think I'd have had very mixed feelings if he'd been cast as Bilbo. On the one hand it would have been wonderful for him to be the main character again and to feature throughout both films. But somehow, it wouldn't have felt quite right to me - he is Frodo, it's the role he'll always be remembered for and I think I'm relieved that this is how it will remain)

Oh, he'll absolutely love it - I remember him saying in an interview that the last time he visited NZ they were getting ready for the filming and he said "I felt such a pang". I really felt for him when I read that so I'm really happy for him. And us!!

This is indeed wonderful news! I am more excited than ever and now cannot wait to watch it over and over again! I still have to find the time to look at your posts of the original journey, but I, too, look forward to more of your posts on this new one. You are definitely 'not alone'! :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

.. but I feel sorry for Elijah. To fly to NZ, be Frodo for a day or two, without his friends, and say good-bye once more.
But maybe it's easier this time and maybe he does it for PJ. I wouldn't have agreed to play the character again for a minute in The Hobbit.

But I am not in his shoes, and of course I don't know him and what the motives are (both his and PJ's) and what the outcome will be.

I'd like Dom to accompany him and cook spaghetti aglio e olio for him and maybe some nice crew guys and girls.

Anne (overprotective or what?)

I know exactly what you mean Anne - it will only be a fleeting joy for him. But he had said that he planned to visit the Hobbit set so at least now he will have something to do instead of having to just look on!

I believe PJ was determined to involve Elijah in some way. It'd be great if the other hobbits could be included too - someone did tell me they'd heard Dom was going to be in it but it hasn't been confirmed yet.

Yes, you're overprotective of him - but so am I, and always will be:D

Hi! I'm glad you understand and don't think I spoiled the moment.
I remember you had the vague hope a year ago or so that still - without the bridge film - Frodo & Co would be involved somehow. I didn't have that hope (I wasn't convinced of the concept of a bridge film either).

But now since Frodo will be in the film (for a minute or two ... or three?) I want Peter to roll out the red carpet and make it a brilliant appearance for Frodo. It has to be the most spectacular, most touching, most smile- and sigh-inducing moment of the whole movie. (which I won't find out, since I'll leave the theatre once that scene is over. Hmm .. which means I have to go alone. *Thinks twice*)

Anne *waves to overprotective co-fan* :))
