The University of Wales, Aberystwyth, is conducting research into the reactions of people to ROTK. I believe they did the same thing with the first two films but I never got round to completing the questionnaire for those. I have finally done it for ROTK - and thanks to mother2012 for reminding me about it. I'm not going to display my responses because they in no way compare to mother's which were brilliant, but - now here's a big surprise - they were very Frodo-centric!! THIS WAY TO THE QUESTIONNAIRE.

Now, I've come to the conclusion that I'm either very dim or very unobservant, probably both, as its only quite recently t come to my notice that with the extended version of the films, although you get many extra scenes, you also LOSE SOME!! For instance, we don't see

I can't believe that gorgeous shot of Frodo is missing!! I have yet to discover if we lost anything from TTT.

I hadn't noticed those were missing, but I had noticed that not all of the shots of Gandalf and Frodo in the theatrical opening scene made it into the extended scene.

I mean, I hadn't noticed the first was missing, but I'd noticed a bit more than that shot missing from the scene in the cart.

I'm extremely unobservant, but since they're my OTP, yes, I noticed that when we got an entirely different opening, we lost some scenes. I think I prefer the theatrical FOTR for that reason. Now if we could just hear the opening with Ian's original narration...

Although I love all the extra bits we get in the EE, I do think the opening after the prologue in the theatrical edition was perfection and had far more impact - that beautiful, idyllic scene after the dark drama of the prologue, followed by the exquisite 'money shot' as Frodo hears Gandalf - wonderful:)

I have to admit that I hadn't noticed the first one, but the second one, yes, because there's slightly more dialogue and it's filmed from a different angle. What we lost in beautiful Frodo though, was more than made up for simply by the shot of him with Bilbo in the tent during the party - although I have to admit that both the shots we lost are beautful in their own right.

I noticed immediately that the gorgeous campfire shot was missing, and it annoyed me as it is so beautiful and serene.

Not sure about the second one, Pauline - actually I will have to compare the two versions, I just assumed that they were the same.

Why must they do this?

"Why must they do this?"

I really don't know - I suppose they have their reasons but it does seem a shame that we have to lose anything. And I agree about the campfire shot, its so beautiful I even considered framing it & putting it up in my 'den' - but then I think that about so many of the scenes that if I actually did it I'd have no wall left!!

Hehehehe I know the feeling about wallspace! I have plenty around the house but am not allowed - I suppose that is understandable really :(

I adore that campfire shot too, it is so beautiful!

Thank you for passing on that link (questionnaire). I've noticed that many of us who love these films also love to talk with others about them, and I don't get to do that often. This gave me the opportunity to tell how much I loved them. Thanks!

Thanks for posting the link to the questionaire. I don't have time to do it right now, but I am saving it to memories so I can do it when I get back. Beautiful Frodo piccies, too!

Blessings!
