I have decided to delete my post from yesterday. I got completely carried away with the excitement of seeing those gorgeous pics of Elijah at the wedding reception but afterwards I did feel a bit uneasy about it. The person who owns that gallery has generously made it available for public viewing but someone has pointed out a letter which was posted on another LJ which is apparently from Jason saying that he doesn't mind people looking but does not want them taken and reposted. I don't know if this letter is genuine - its just an anonymous post on an LJ whereas I'd have thought the more obvious thing to do would be to put a notice on the first page of his gallery - but I've removed my post just in case. I know that his pics have already been posted by others but it would be a terrible shame if he decided to make his gallery private which is what I fear may happen if the pics start appearing on various websites and elsewhere. I'm hoping for loads more goodies from him and don't want to jeopardize that.

Pauline,

If the pictures are posted on the PUBLIC section of his gallery, I can't see that you did anything wrong. You could always just include the links so people go directly there from now on.

Thank you for pointing them out yesterday. Much appreciated - I would have missed them otherwise, because I hadn't thought to check out his gallery.

Whose gallery is this, anyway? I've been hearing an awful lot about these different "forbidden" albums over the last few days, but have no idea who they belong to.

Yes, you're right, its better just to give the link. In the letter (if its real) its the taking and reposting of the pics he's objecting to, but says he doesn't mind people looking otherwise he wouldn't have put them on the internet.

Since you say this person's gallery is now open, I can't see the harm in looking at the photos. In fact, I'd be interested in doing so myself, but I see you've already taken down the post with the link. Any chance you would share the address?

No harm at all in looking - its the reposting he doesn't want, which I suppose is understandable.
Here's the link: http://www.jasonz.com/gallery/albums.php

Thanks very much for pointing me in the right direction.

It was nice to see Elijah out with friends, having fun, being "normal." I imagine he doesn't get much of a chance to do that nowadays.

I personally wasn't too bent out of shape by your post--I knew you just got carried away, and meant no harm. And at least those were photos from a public place (I think?).

But personally, even if he hadn't asked (or that isn't him), I'd like to think that people wouldn't just repost MY photos without asking, so I think we should accord Jason the same courtesy. He's taking these just as you or I would--not to sell to the media or anything--so to me, he deserves to be treated the way we'd treat any other private individual who posts photos.

Yes, his gallery is open for public viewing and as he says in the letter (if its genuine) he has no problem with that or he wouldn't have put it on the internet. But even before I read the letter I was having qualms about posting the pics, mostly about where they would end up next. These things have a way of mushrooming (no pun intended!). And you're quite right - it must be very annoying to see pics you've taken popping up all over the place.

Not_Alone,

Did he say anything about posting the pics in a locked LJ? Just curious.

This is a copy of the letter:

From: (Anonymous) Date: October 18th, 2004 - 06:47 pm (Link)
Actually, I DO mind

I am the owner of jasonz.com, and the photos, though on the internet, are still owned by me, and should not be taken without my permission, which, for the record, I am not giving to anyone.

Looking is not the problem. If I did not want them to be seen, I obviously would not put them online. However, taking them is a problem. They are not yours to take and post somewhere else as you please.
If you are doing so, you are doing so against my wishes and without my permission.

Jason Z
