I'm back from NZ - in fact we got home last Friday - but I'm still suffering the effects of the flight - thumping headache, nausea, tiredness. Oddly enough, I didn't get any of this trouble when we flew out there. Many thanks to everyone who sent bon voyage messages before I left. I now know why Elijah and all the LOTR cast adore NZ so much - it is magical, nothing less than sensational. So many differing landscapes and all of them breathtakingly beautiful. I've taken hundreds of pics - as soon as I can get round to loading them onto my computer and sorting out the best ones I'll post some of them. Some of the LOTR-related highlights: seeing Hobbiton, touching the Party Tree and the steps to Bag End: going on an escorted LOTR tour round Wellington which included Rivendell and a place called Fernside where some of the Lothlorien & Gladden Fields scenes were filmed. Fernside is a beautiful house set in private grounds which are not open to the general public - you can only get in if you do the Red Carpet tour or the one we did (Flat Earth)- or if you stay there which would be very expensive. The most surreal moment came when we had lunch there, just me, hubby, Colin the tour guide, two others who came on the tour, and the Fernside guide who was dressed as Aragorn - all sitting in a huge marquee which had been erected for a family wedding at the weekend. I had to pinch myself to believe I was really there!!: discovering The Bucket Fountain: having lunch at the Chocolate Fish Cafe - no wonder the cast loved this place so much: spending time in the Queenstown Mall where the hobbits had lunch the day after the Queenstown Winter Ball; understanding why Lij said Queenstown was his favourite NZ place.
Discovered after we got home that the hotel referred to on the ROTK dvd extras where they used the squash court for filming some F&S scenes was the one we actually stayed in for 3 nights!!! I wish I'd known at the time!!
It really was the holiday of a lifetime - I can't believe its over. Alas, its now back down to earth with a bump - I'm back at work and hating it:(
I've heard you lucky US folk will be seeing Lij on 'Ellen' tonight. I'm looking forward to reports, pics etc - really hope it will be put online somewhere.
