Yes, I am still here - and amazingly I have reached this day without throwing this ?@!!$%*!/>!"#! computer through the window!! At least I know that if it gives up completely I do have everything important backed-up. Many thanks to everyone who left sympathetic comments after my last post - I've just realised that I never replied to any of them which was unforgiveable - but they were all appreciated:)

For anyone who is wondering about the next chapter of 'Journey', I have managed to get quite a lot of it done but it has been excruciatingly slow. The thing is, I do have a very good laptop but because I'm so disorganised I have some stuff on the laptop which is different to that on my desktop, though a lot of it is the same, and I have certain programmes I need on the desktop which aren't on the laptop and vice versa - I'm sure you get the picture. Anyway, enough whining - I'm pretty sure I'll get it posted in the next few days but in the meantime I bring you a rather late-in-the-day Froday post. I'm sure many of you bought the special edition of the ROTK soundtrack which included a rather lovely dvd, but there may be some who were later coming to the fandom who missed it. There is a section on it devoted to poems and songs from ROTK - I am posting some of the pics from this; these are not (gasp!!) all of Frodo, but they are all about him. When you see these on the dvd, they are accompanied by the music from 'The Grey Havens' and I find it incredibly emotional - so if you can try to imagine that playing ...

This beautiful image, which I'm sure most people have seen before, is also included.

There is a feature on 'Into The West' and Howard Shore also talks about the song 'Use Well The Days', also sung by Annie Lennox, which he describes as "part of the journey to 'Into the West'". While I agree that ITW is the best song for the end of ROTK, I do love Use Well The Days - Frodo's song for Sam. Some of the words are so heartbreaking - "I must go, must cross the sea, the love you gave is all I take with me" - "Turn your face to the green world, use well the days". *sniff*

I only seem to have a very small version of this:(

Have a lovely weekend all ~ hope to bring you 'Separate Paths' very soon:)

Yes, it's a nice feeling to know that everything is safe - unlike the first time my pc died when I lost almost everything!!

I hadn't watched that dvd for a long time, I do tend to forget about it for quite long periods and then suddenly remember!! The poems section is particularly heart-wrenching:)

I actually don't have the CD/DVD you talked about - so thanks so much for posting these. What a wonderful combination of picture and words!! So there are songs on there that didn't make it into the movie? I'll have to check them out once I get a few $ in my pocket.

So sorry about your computer problems - it sounds complicated trying to work on things right now. Take your time - your chapters of "Journey" are always worth the wait. *BIG HUGS*

Glad you enjoyed the pics etc. 'Use Well The Days' wasn't in the movie but I believe the other verses are translations of the Sindarin which is sung at certain points on the soundtrack.

it sounds complicated trying to work on things right now.

I always feel that if I could just get myself properly organised it would make things so much easier - the problem is I need about 3 months where I don't have to do anyting else in order to achieve that!!

I have the regular, not the special edition one; thanks for posting, these are lovely.

I came through Mews, and just wanted to say that I have a mp3 of Use Well The Days if you would like it. I love it so much, and wish it could have ended up in the movie. Let me know if you'd be interested, and I'll upload it for you. Thanks for these lovely caps.

Me too - I think 'Into The West' was the perfect song for the end of the movie, but it would have been lovely to have 'Use Well The Days' in there too, perhaps sung over part of the Grey Havens scene as ITW doesn't play until the actual credits.

Thank you so much for offering to upload an MP3 of the song for me - that would be really lovely as I don't have it on my pc - thanks again, and thanks for 'dropping in' :)

Wonderful pictures and words. I must admit I haven't yet looked for this special edition. Is it available in shops or just mail order? Must investigate.

I'm backing up and deleting at the moment as there is SO MUCH stuff on my harddrive. Much of it is my sons and he keeps meaning to come and remove it but he never gets round to it. I have files in RL and files on my PC and most are backed up an all sorts of places! It's a nightmare. And then of course there are the programmes themselves and email addies to backup! I know my PC is on borrowed time but TIME is my big enemy.

Thanks Mole. I doubt you'd be able to get this CD in the shops, but they do have it at Amazon - this is the link:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lord-Rings-Return-King-DVD/dp/B0000YJ0FC/ref=sr_1_3/202-8940459-0215060?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1192909870&sr=1-3

The sleeve is slightly different to the one I have but it's definitely the one - not to be confused with 'ROTK : The Complete Recordings which is coming out on Nov 6th and which costs over £46.00!!

I know my PC is on borrowed time but TIME is my big enemy

That's the whole problem in a nutshell!! As I said to someone else above, I could do with about three whole months where I don't have to do anything else!! I know I have everything backed-up, and I have my laptop to use if this one dies, but everything is in such a state of utter confusion!! If I could just get organised once and for all everything would be so much easier. Ah well, perhaps one day ... :)

AMAZING PICS ! I just want to cry, it's so beautiful...

I just wanted to ask : the special edition of The Return of the King soundtrack is already out ?! I thought it was in November !!
And one last question : where did you learn that "Use Well the Days" was a song of Frodo to Sam ? I mean when I heard the lyrics I immediatly thought of them but I wasn't sure !

Yes - it affects me that way too:)

No, no - that is something completely different. You're right - ROTK : The Complete Recordings is due out on Nov 6th but the soundtrack CD I'm referring to was out a long time ago, probably not long after the original CD. It came with a little booklet thing, this special dvd, and a couple of extra tracks:)

"where did you learn that "Use Well the Days" was a song of Frodo to Sam ? I mean when I heard the lyrics I immediatly thought of them but I wasn't sure !"

Well, my immediate thought when I read your question was that it was referred to on this dvd - but then I got to thinking about it and I'm not sure that it is, and I haven't had a chance to rewatch it yet (but I will!!). It must be on either one of the dvd extras, or documentaries, or it may even be that I read it in an article. But I know that I saw/heard it referred to somewhere because when I first heard this song - someone downloaded a rather poor recording of it some time before I had this CD - it didn't even register with me that some of the words were Frodo's addressed to Sam - and when I heard about it I couldn't believe that I hadn't realised, because it's so obvious!! It's bugging me now, I really need to find this - and I will let you know if and when I do!!

Hi Pauline. I'm glad to learn you now have all your precioussssss
files safely transferred.

Gorgeous pics - especially the last one. I have seen some of these
before, and thought they were wallpapers made by fans. I don't have that special edition of the ROTK soundtrack - only the normal version. I wondered if the DVD was the same as the LOTR Symphony DVD - which I do have, but after checking I see it must be a different one. Must add it to my 'to get' list!

You mentioned the new ROTK Complete Score CD which is due to be
released in November - well, I have no chance of getting that any
time soon. But I saw the list of tracks the other day, and there are samplers (only 30 seconds each) up at the Barnes and Noble website. The final track is 'Bilbo's Song,' and contains an Elvish translation of the book poem, 'I sit beside the fire and think...' It's performed by a boys' choir, and is achingly beautiful. Apparently it is Howard Shore's 'Thank You and Goodbye' to the fans. As it transpires, the piece is actually featured on the ROTK Extended Edition DVD, right at the end of the fan club credits - so I have had it all this time without realising it. Now I have snagged it off the DVD so I can listen at my leisure. It makes me think of dear Bilbo, waiting in Rivendell for his 'Dear Boy' to come back. I'm sure you'll like it too.

Howard Shore seems such a lovely man, and for me, his score for LOTR is a work of genius.

Thank you for a beautiful - and informative - post. Looking
forward to more 'Journey.'

Take care,
Blossom.

P.S. Thanks to lbilover for the 'Use Well The Days' download link.

Hi Blossom! First of all, many thanks for your email - I've been meaning to let you know I'd received it. Will reply asap:)

You're right, this dvd is different to the LOTR Symphony one. We LOTR fans are very lucky, aren't we? There are so many goodies to be had that we tend to get confused about what we have and what we don't:D

As it transpires, the piece is actually featured on the ROTK Extended Edition DVD, right at the end of the fan club credits -

I didn't know that either!! I must listen to it - yes, I'm sure I will like it too:) I must visit the Barnes & Noble site too. I won't be having this until Christmas, as with the previous ones Roger is going to get it for me as a gift. It seems very expensive though - I'm sure the other two weren't that expensive.

Howard Shore seems such a lovely man, and for me, his score for LOTR is a work of genius.

I fully agree, to me his music is a massive part of the appeal of the films. I feel so priveledged to have seen him conduct the symphony in London.

Yes, it was so good of Ibilover to upload that for us:)
