Elijah Wood may return for Hobbit movie

“Hobbit” director Guillermo Del Toro said he would love to bring back Elijah Wood, Sean Astin and so on, for that second film, to reprise their roles from the original trio of films.

“I want to be very clear about this. I am not going to recast any actor that is willing and able to work with us,” Del Toro told MTV News. “It would be my hope to bring back the same actors to play the parts. The casting on the trilogy was perfect.”

And of course, Elijah has already declared that he would love to be involved. I think I might melt with joy:)

What marvelous news! I actually believed Elijah was so set on distancing himself from Frodo that he wouldn't want to reprise his role, but I'm so happy to hear I was wrong. Let's just hope they can make it happen.

BTW, I love your layout. The photo of Frodo and the colors, just beautiful.

My impression has always been that he never really wanted to distance himself from Frodo, he just wanted to do some completely different roles so that he wouldn't be known only for Frodo. He has often said that Frodo will always be a part of him and "I keep the character close to my heart".

BTW, I love your layout

Isn't it gorgeous?! Sadly, I can't take any credit for it myself - it was the creation of the wonderful annwyn55 who very kindly did this for me because I'm so clueless!!:)

I think Elijah was asked about this at FNP, and he said he would definitely join up for a kind of.. appearance at the end, just like, to tip his hat to the whole thing, but he wouldn't be on for any kind of in-depth role. Plus he said that he didn't think his character has a place in The Hobbit. Which is true.. but then no-one knows what this 'bridging movie' is going to entail, and how much creative license del Toro is going to enlist in.

I want to see Frodo back, of course I do, and as much as possible of him! lol. But I am also afraid of del Toto trying to reel the Fellowship back into a movie where they have no place. I mean, under what scenario could he bring anyone else but the hobbits and Gandalf back? I just hope that it doesn't somehow taking away from the trilogy.

I guess we will all have to just wait and see! The awful thing is too, that the bridging movie will be the second to come out, and probably the one that people are more nervous/excited about, and we will have to wait a whole year (at least) longer for that one!

I believe the first time Elijah was asked about this was in an interview during the French OM premiere when he said he'd love to revisit that world again and to play Frodo again as long as it made sense:) I've a feeling that if Elijah was offered more than a cameo he'd be unlikely to turn it down - but even if it is just a brief appearance, I'm so releived & happy that it seems likely he will be involved:) And yes - it looks like we're in for a very long wait!!

It will have to be the second movie, so we're in for a very long wait - but if it happens it will be so great to have this to look forward to:)

i'm so torn on this. first, how great would it be to have elijah in a film that we KNOW we'll be able to see? then again, as much as i loved elijah as frodo, i would like for him to move on from it. but no one else can play frodo or gandalf or sam. i hope the "bridge" movie has frodo, but very little. it can't be as major as the role in LOTR. i think even elijah said it would be a great cameo piece.

I think it's quite likely this will just be a cameo - but I'm so glad it looks like he'll at least be involved - for him not to be would be so wrong, he was the heart and soul of those movies. And the thought of someone else trying to be Frodo!! *shudders*

I never for a second doubted that he would be in the films in some way. Peter loves him as much as we do and obviously Guillermo shares the feeling too.

No matter what anyone else might say LOTR would never have been as amazing as it was without Elijah at the heart of it. We was the perfect Frodo. And now he probably will be again!

That was always my gut feeling too, but I was also afraid it might just be my wishful thinking. Thankfully it is now looking very hopeful.

I totally agree - he was the heart and soul of those movies:)

I'm exactly the same - if it was just a film of The Hobbit, which Frodo is no part of, I would have very little interest. But as soon as I heard mention of this second bridging film (quite some time ago now) I've harboured this hope that Elijah would be involved in some way. And, not wanting to say too much for fear of jinxing it, I've always had a feeling that we would see Elijah as Frodo again. If it does happen, it will be a dream come true for me:)
