I'd forgotten all about this until I came across it on a disk today - and, as it's Wood Wednesday, I thought I'd share. I can't remember where I originally found it - probably on someone's LJ - but apparently back in 2005 some celebrities were posting their current Itunes playlist ... somewhere ... and this was Elijah's. The comments are all Elijah's too. I have to admit there were only about 3 or 4 I knew: I *love* One Blood, I know 'God Only Knows' of course - I do like the Beach Boys, 'But Not For Me' is the well-known classic - I checked on Itunes, and this version of 'Space Oddity' does sound interesting, although I only heard a snatch. I played bits from all the others on Itunes - most didn't really appeal but I am considering downloading 'Summer's Gone' by Aberfeldy. So behind the cut I give you Elijah Wood's Itunes Playlist - posted on 13 Sep 2005 but, going by a couple of his comments, obviously compiled some time earlier that year. I've included a pic of how The Gorgeous One looked back then:)

1. One Blood - Terence Jay
"A song from a film I'm a part of called Green Street Hooligans. It is not often that I would listen to a song from a movie, but this one is really strong and it works beautifully in the film as well. The movie is coming to theaters in september."

2. Even Now We Are Preparing to Love You - Puny Human
"This song sounds like it's always on the verge of falling apart. Foot tapping, hip shaking good times!"

3. King - Fireball Ministry
"Probably my favorite tune from Fireball. A riff that cannot be denied. Thank you Reverend Rota."

4. Summer's Gone - Aberfeldy
"A brilliantly infectious pop song from Scotland's Aberfeldy. I love the organ."

5. If You Want Me to Stay - Sly & The Family Stone
"If I asked, I always come back to this song as my favorite of all time. Sly Stone, where are you?"

6. Throw Me Away - James Chance
"Unhinged with an incredible groove. The contortions were amazing. Thanks Eugene."

7. Damaged Goods - Gang of Four
"From their recently reissued Entertainment!. Every song on this record is brilliant. You can certainly hear where many new bands are pooling their idea's from."

8. Mr. Sellack - The Roches
"A trio they were, from New York City. I love this song. Never fails to make me smile."

9. Tom Cat (Electric Mud) - Muddy Waters
"This record was panned by critics upon its release, as it veered too far away from the relatively traditional blues format they were used to from Muddy Waters. A truly incredible record of classic muddy tunes re-envisioned into funky blues fusion."

10. When You Were Mine - Prince
"I love everything Prince has done from his first record up until LoveSexy, and this is still the tune I probably go back to the most. Not really indicative of his sound at all; shows off the kind of songwriting range he had."

11. God Only Knows (stereo version) - The Beach Boys
"This had to be one of the greatest songs ever written. Always sends me off."

12. Fearless - Pink Floyd
"My favorite Pink Floyd song off my favorite record of theirs. I believe the chorus at the end are Chelsea United supporters."

13. Alberto Balsalm - Aphex Twin
"One of my favorite Aphex Twin songs. Incredible percussion and quite melancholic."

14. Space Oddity - The Langley Schools Music Project
"I love this record. Hans Fenger, a music teacher at the Langley Schools in canada during the mid seventies, led his class to learn music by performing popular hits from the period. The results are rough around the edges and completely pure. this version of David Bowie's classic is truly haunting."

15. But Not for Me - Chet Baker
"My favorite of Chet's vocal tunes; beautiful and sad. Such an incredible voice. Check out "Let's Get Lost"; a brilliant and disturbing documentary of his life."

16. Baro Foro - Gogol Bordello
"Late night party song off of Gogol Bordello's second record. Look out for their new record in August and enrich your life by seeing them live!"

And, er ... thankyou, Mr Wood, for recommending the song I'm playing right now. Trouble is, every time I play this, it remains playing in my head for about a week:D

Very interesting collection there. One of the songs I always think of in connection to Elijah is Light and Day/Reach for the Sun by Polyphonic Spree from "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" -- it's aka as Section 9 from their "Beginning Stages of..." album -- And, as always, a very lovely image to brighten the dreary day

Thanks! **hugs**

I downloaded all these songs, at the time. I've enjoyed a couple of them. A few of them are obviously meant to promote someone (i.e. Bara Faro (Gogol Bordello), One Blood (from Hooligans), and maybe the one by Fireball Ministry--his friends). It's really hard for me to believe he didn't just pick these out of the air. They were rather uninspiring, for the most part, IMO.

I don't know why, but at the time they were originally posted I never checked these out. I must have just copied the list and then forgotten it!!

I suppose, having a lot of friends in the music industry, he'd feel obliged to include their songs on a public list. Puny Human are friends of his too:)

HELLO GORGEOUS!

i've never been able to get into that yamasuki song. it's a bit much for me. i liked less than half of the songs he had on his list, but sly & the family stone has always been a favorite of mine. his tastes are so varied, but that's what makes music so good.

i remember elijah saying he was sort of nudged into including one blood on his play list. he said it was something he probably wouldn't have included.

90% of the time I don't really enjoy the music Elijah likes - perhaps because I'm like 100 years old - so when I actually do like something he's rec'd I'm over the moon. I liked Yamasuki as soon as i heard it - just something about it:) One Blood reminds me of Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits which I've loved ever since discovering it on an FOTR music vid many years ago!!

Doesn't the gorgeous one look deliciouly gorgeous .. *sigh*

I have these tunes somewhere.. haven't played them in ages. I know i like the Aberfeldy one, but quite a few of them went right over my head i'm afraid.

I think he mentioned this playlist at Toronto SFX.. he said the list was to promote Green Street, so he had to include one of their tracks, but it also gave him the chance to promote some friends bands.

I adore the comments he makes about each of the songs he chose.

"This had to be one of the greatest songs ever written. Always sends me off."

Off where i wonder ;)

It's so strange - I didn't download or even check out any of those tracks at the time, in fact I don't really remember saving that list - but Sep 13 was less than two weeks after our return from ELF and I can remember manically trying to catch up with everything at that time - I must have saved it and completely forgotten about it!!

I was watching the Toronto vid a few days ago - but I don't recall him talking about the playlist. Oh dear, that means I'll have to watch it again to check that out, what a nuisance - NOT :D

Off where i wonder ;)

That's exactly what I thought!!

"I was watching the Toronto vid a few days ago - but I don't recall him talking about the playlist. "

No prizes for guessing what you were concentrating on then .. obviously not what he was saying ;)

"Oh dear, that means I'll have to watch it again to check that out, what a nuisance - NOT :D"

Lol.. having said that, you have me doubting myself.. so maybe i need to watch it again too .. ;D
