Thanks for honouring Pierre Vinet. How he enriched LotR with his fabulous character portraits of Frodo, and of the rest of the cast. He made so many gorgeous, evocative pictures of them.

Oh, gosh, me too. Has he ever published a book of his LotR stuff? If not, I would ADORE it if he did. I'd snap it right up. Unfortunately, when I give it some thought, I'll bet New Line (or whoever now owns New Lines stuff) owns the rights to all his work for the films. Will they ever publish the photos? Who knows.

Perhaps the rights belong to his family now? If so, they may accept an offer to publish. They could probably use the money it would earn, as well as wishing to see the work of the man they loved further appreciated.

Oh, that is so unfortunate. His photos were some of the first ones I ever saw of the LoTR cast, and this particular one of Frodo was absolutely legendary in the circles I ran in during those days. Thank you for posting about this.

It is very sad news. His beautiful pics are so familiar to all LOTR fans. Obviously I'm somewhat biased, but his stunning pic of Frodo stands out above them all.

Oh nooo! I read the news of his death yesterday and the name didn't ring a bell. I'm so sorry to hear it's the photographer who took that beautiful photo (and the one he did of Samwise was equally wonderful!).

:(((

It's very sad. His pics are so well-loved by LOTR fans. Although his stunning pic of Frodo is my favourite, I agree that his pic of Samwise is wonderful too, in fact I really love all his cast portraits.:)

So it's true. So saddening - Vinet seemed to be a relatively young man. I googled his name when I heard about it, and was surprised to find that so many iconic LotR stills and posters bore his byline. We tend to think of him only in connection with the beautiful b & w portrait series. I'm sure the cast and crew will miss him.

I am so sad. His pictures capured the character and actor and morphed them together in a way you don't see in the movie. Pierre Vinet made them real in his picture. He mad the moment stand out. When I look at this picture, I still have and cherish, I see not only Frodo, but I see Elijah. That is what he did in these pictures especially.
