How very apt that I would spend last night watching the Golden Globes and celebrating the so-very-deserved LOTR triumph. Exactly two years previously, I had gone to the cinema with my husband & daughter. We saw FOTR for the very first time. And for the very first time I saw this:

Didn't know what had hit me!! There was I - one moment an ordinary, rational middle-aged woman, probably regarded by most as quite 'normal' - whatever that may be - but when I emerged from that cinema I was something very different. I can't believe two years has gone by since then. Thankyou Elijah for what you have given me during that time - and here's to the next two:)

I'm with you. Two years ago, I hadn't written a word of a single story, and never dreamed I ever would. Seeing FOTR changed my life. Thank you, Elijah. Thank you, PJ. Thank you, Prof. Tolkien.

And to think I'd lived my whole life in Birmingham where Tolkien lived for so long and never even read the book - I'd just read the first few chapters of FOTR when we saw the film for the first time.

Your comments sound like my very own experience too!

How my life has changed since seeing this wonderful man say those immortal words "You're late"

You know, I really can't remember what life was like before that day - its difficult to imagine not knowing of his existence!

Put like that it really made me think - I really can't remember when I DIDN'T love Elijah - even though it is only two years.

I can't remember when his dear face was not always in mind.

VERY thank you for your words...you touch me-as usually! Thank you again and again. I bless Elijah for pure fact-he helps me to find people like you are. That´s more than nice. It is brilliant. Whole life, full of ordinary and grey days, is better with friends like you are. I bless Elijah...and I love him, so much.

I know just how you feel! I didn't want to go and see FOTR because I didn't see how they could make a film of it, but I was persuaded by a group of friends, and apparently the second Elijah appeared, I said, "that's Frodo!" and I haven't looked back since.

He may never get an acting award for this film, but he has the love of millions of people, and he will be an icon to more than our generation. When we're all dead and gone - and he is, too - he'll still be there, incandescent, beautiful, heartbreaking Frodo

Oh my God, you've started me off now - that was so beautiful and so absolutely true - and you can always express these things so perfectly. I've always had a strong feeling that this was meant to be, that its what fate intended for him and thats why his mom, albeit unknowingly, guided him along this path all those years ago. I find great comfort in the thought that Frodo's unique beauty is captured forever.

Well, you know I feel the same way. I love that beautiful, gentle, kind, humble, incredibly talented young man to bits and bits.

And when that first scene of Frodo came on screen in FOTR I think my heart stopped. And I don't think it's started up right ever since. But it has gotten much younger thanks to Elijah.

Absolutely - I feel he's taken years off my age. Funnily enough, last year my cousin suddenly said to me "there's something different about you - you look younger"! And this was from someone who very rarely & only grudgingly gives praise. She had no idea of the reason, of course, and I certainly wasn't going to tell her:)

Well you know I feel exactly the same. Two years. He changed my life, completely and forever. I was completely boring. I was dead inside, thought there was nothing left for me, no reason for anything (that sounds terrible - I mean apart from my beautiful daughter)- I was just so very tired and worn down. Then almost overnight everything changed.

Now I feel thirty years younger and am a completely different person. That's what love for this incredible, beautiful man does for you! Thank you, our beautiful, intoxicating, charming, magical Elijah. It seems there are so many of us, of very similar ages, in very similar circumstances who were instantly enchanted by him ... captured by his spell.

Thanks so much for emailing me about the Golden Globes being on last night!! Wish I received Living TV - dammit!! Glad you enjoyed them/him *sigh*

I wonder if he has any idea whatsoever of the effect he's had on us. I really don't think he does - he's such a modest person he'd probably be amazed. Being well into my fifties I know I'm a lot older than most of his fans and I do get feelings of guilt, as though there's something not quite right about it, but then I think that love in its many forms can never be wrong or bad, only positive. Its not as though I'm hurting anyone by this and in a strange way its made me appreciate my husband even more than before.

I'm sorry you weren't able to see the Globes - it was good but I don't think we got to see quite as much as the US. There was a sweet moment when Jamie Lee Curtis, who was Lij's mom in 'Paradise' of course, gave him a kiss on the cheek on the red carpet. We didn't see much of the LOTR people until they actually won. I believe frodoandsam.net have clips up now and I know there are clips at BEI but I wasn't able to get those to work yesterday.

You are right, Pauline - he is so modest and would be knocked for six if he knew the effect he has on us more *mature* ladies! I think he would be amazed at the sheer number of us he has adoring him.

He always says he finds the teenies quite difficult to cope with - or that sort of thing, he doesn't phrase it that way, but I wonder if he would find the love of us older ladies easier to handle? He is such a mature person inside his young frame anyway. It would be nice to think he would love us too!

Oh my. I think I just had a brilliant idea....or it could just be those Lijah endorphins acting up.

But....

I just thought of forming a community here just for older fans..say over thirty and up...to leave messages for Elijah. Maybe on a different topic each week.

I think it would be better to keep it just for older fans because the kiddies get a trifle carried away with all the 'Will you marry me, Elijahs' and all the 'I love yous' and the kind of silly netspeak. And it seems Elijah is particularly moved by how we older fans feel about what he has done in giving us such a wonderful Frodo.

WE could spam the idea around to our older LJ friends and others of a 'certain age' we know. I wouldn't want to make a huge announcement about it because then the kids will wonder why they can't post. And I don't want to start a kerfuffle but to have a nice place for us to tell Elijah what he means to us. The youngsters can start their own community if they want to.

I could let Elijah's management know about it and he can check in if he wants to get a nice boost of love and encouragement. I keep thinking Elijah may just go into a bit of a depression when all the ROTK hype is over and it really hits him that this whole phase of his life is over. He's said that's when he thinks it will really hit him. So maybe if he knows there's a place filled with nice thoughts for him it will help keep him his cheerful sweet self.

Any possible nasty troll posts would of course be deleted. And the avoidance of trolls is why I think we should be a bit careful about promoting the community and telling only those who will appreciate what it's all about.

What do you think?

I think I'm going to see about setting up the journal pages for it later on and then seeing how people we can trust like it.

What a brilliant idea!! And I think you're right about the possibility of Lij going into a bit of a depression after all this - it had occurred to me with some of the things he's said recently - I think it could hit him quite hard. So just let me know what you need me to do to help set it up.

Hobbsy, what a wonderful idea!!! It would be lovely - a community just for us *older* fans and to let Elijah's management know about it. I feel so excited just at the idea.

I too have been concerned that he may get depressed now that LOTR is coming to an end. He got depressed when the filming finished and now the whole thing is over he may find it even harder to handle. It would be nice to think we may be of comfort to him.

Thanks so much for coming up with this - and taking the time to sort it out. ;)

I think it is marvellous idea! I agree-we need our own place to let messages for Elijah! Young fan are not permanent in their love...we all have some terrible or serous experience from life, we are able to appreciate his quality, his essence....Elijah is more than nice man as we know in our hearts.
Please try to do it. I support your idea from whole my heart.

Hi Hobbsy!
I´m very unhappy because it isn´t allowed to me to join to any communities on web. I have been working for Mr.President(president´s office in Czech republic, Prague), and it is forbidden for us. But I wish to be in new community "letters to Elijah"(for older fan). Please, may I know your mail?(my is: palexandra@seznam.cz). May I write letter to Elijah to you or "not_alone"? Through yours mail I´m able to be in your community. Please, try to help me. THANK YOU
Allie

I'm a little late in responding to comments as you can see. I had to share my experience with you because ours are so similar. I actually didn't particularly like Elijah. But, of course, was completely blown away on seeing exactly what you saw. The first viewing I went interesting (and who is the cute blond guy). And then...by viewing three I was completely entranced with Elijah and couldn't take my eyes of him. It's been like that ever since. Totally and completely smitten (and yes, I'm old enough to be his mommy).

I had actually never set eyes on him before that day, hadn't even heard his name despite all the publicity prior to releasing FOTR. So at first I only knew him as Frodo - and the effect he had on me was instantaneous. I'd never experienced anything like it before, I was just enchanted, by him and by the film. And then I discovered that Elijah is just as adorable as Frodo and my affection for him has just grown. And I'm almost old enough to be his grandmother.
