Many thanks for all the kind messages following my last post back in March. The operation went well and I was on iv antibiotics in the hospital for two weeks. This was followed by six weeks of three different, high dose oral antibiotics at home and as you can probably imagine this leaves you feeling pretty rough. I am now finished with those and feeling a lot better. I am also walking and moving a lot better than I was when I first came home though I'm only allowed to put 50% weight on my left leg because of the temporary implant (which is also packed with antibiotics!). It is very weird having this thing in my leg as I can feel and hear all this crunching and grinding as I walk! I have also been having weekly blood tests and on Saturday I went to have an injection to withdraw fluid from my hip so they can find out if the infection is gone so I am on tenterhooks waiting for that. It is all so frustrating as I am not capable of doing much around the house so I'm having to watch Roger struggle with it all. I have to say he's been amazing and I don't know what I'd have done without him.

I'm so sorry for all the birthdays I've missed - I do hope they were all really happy. Hopefully I will be able to keep up a bit better now that I'm feeling more like myself. But of course, all being well I will be having the second operation to fit my proper replacement hip in a few weeks time.

Love to all xx

So glad that you are feeling better and I hope you get good results from the recent test. I hope you continue to heal well and quickly. And, that the next operation goes smoothly.

Great to see you pop in.

Hi! It's good to hear from you. I'm glad you're done with the antibiotics and hope your fluid test comes back infection free so you can get your new hip soon.

WOW. I'm overjoyed to see an update from you. What a tough, frustrating, painful experience. When I broke my ankle, Shiremom (age 86 and rather sedentary) was amazing like Roger and really helped out. I'm so glad you're not alone.

So many ♥ ♥ ♥ !!!

It's wonderful to hear from you, and that your surgery went well. As hard as it is to resist, don't overdo. Take it easy so you don't undo everything you've gone through.

Good heavens, have you been in and out of hospital since March? You poor soul! It's dreadful that this happened, something I dreaded myself as a person with joint replacements, but hang in there, Not Alone. "There's light at the end of the tunnel, they say--and there will be. :) :)

Hi Mechtild, so nice to hear from you. It was actually last September when I first had to go into hospital. That was with the original infection. Little, did I realise what it would lead to!! I didn't know you'd had joint replacements, I do hope you've found them beneficial. xx

It's so good to see you here again, although I'm not much on LJ these days myself.
You've certainly been going through it lately and I hope you've turned a corner and are on the road to recovery now.
Thanks for your update, I'll be thinking of you and sending love and hugs xxx

Gosh, am I glad to see you here!
Sounds like you had a really rough time of it. High dosages of antibiotics really do make you feel bad.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed the tests come out positive (or rather, negative) and that the new hip can be put in soon.
Thanks so much for the update. Hang in there!

Thank you for the update. I'd been wondering how you were doing. I hope the test show no infection and that you can go ahead with the next surgery. Will that be the end of it? I sure hope so because you've gone through so much already.

Don't feel bad about missing birthdays, at least not mine on May 11th. My computer crashed on May 9th during a Microsoft Windows update and I wasn't able to even use my ancient laptop because we couldn't find the AC adapter. Ordered a new adapter which arrived yesterday so I'm back in business, but this old laptop is pretty slow.

Talked with a computer repairman and he said it would probably cost as much to repair my Dell tower as it would be buy a new computer so, after talking it over with hubby, we decided on the latter. I'm going with a 17" HP laptop and it will be here June 4th.

I really hope that will be an end to it Yeux but I found out yesterday that if the test shows that some infection is still there I will have to go through the whole thing again. As you can imagine I am now living in dread until I get those results.

I'm sorry about your computer woes but tomorrow you get your new lap top so that will be exciting. My lap top is going the same way, it's terribly slow so I think I will be in the same situation before long. Also my mini iPad has been driving me mad, I Wish now I'd gone for the full size one. Anyway, hope your new one is up and running really soon - enjoy!!

Getting older is kinda scary, I am so sorry to hear about your infections. I broke my foot in late March and finally got my cast of yesterday, but yours sounds way worse. Take care and let us know how it goes!
