ELIJAH WOOD'S JOURNEY WITH FRODO ~ CHAPTER FOUR ~ 'BECOMING FRODO'
I've reached the point of almost posting this several times before, but kept thinking of something else I wanted to include. It's becoming quite addictive!! So, I'm posting this without too much preamble so that it doesn't happen again:D ( CHAPTER FOUR ~ BECOMING FRODOCollapse )
Wow. I've come here via shirebound and I really enjoyed reading (experiencing!) this look into Elijah's 'journey'. It is fascinating to see what life was like, and you've included many snippets of endearing information. I too love that he felt like a hobbit at one point.
I'm looking forward to reading the other chapters!
Oooh - part 4 has arrived! Another wonderful instalment of 'Journey,' Pauline.
I also love Elijah's telling of how he looked down at his feet and 'felt like a hobbit.' The clip with Sean setting off the party popper always makes me smile - Elijah almost jumped out of his wig! Oh, and I absolutley adore him in those pointy ears!
I'm often pleasantly surprised by his taste in music. (And sometimes horrified!) He appears to appreciate a wide variety of styles, and is obviously keen on delving into the past and discovering older material. I particularly liked his recent recommendation for the 'Women Blues Singers' compilation CD, and I'll be forever grateful to him for introducing me to the music of Perry Blake.
Once again, a pleasure to read and reminisce. Thanks for all your hard work, dear. I'm looking forward to Part 5 already!
Glad you enjoyed the latest chapter. Those ears really are quite adorable, aren't they?
Elijah's vast knowledge of music is quite awe-inspiring. Probably the majority of singers/bands he mentions I've either never heard of, or I have but can't enjoy them. But occasionally he does come up with something I really love, and that pleases me no end!! His taste does seem to be spreading out and he seems to like some really old stuff. However, I don't remember him referring to the Women Blues Singers or Perry Blake - I must investigate!! Did you hear him on Radio One yesterday? It was a very good interview.
It would be good if I could get Chapter 5 up in time for Christmas, for reasons which will be obvious if I do, but it's going to be touch and go!!
I loved that part where Elijah is musing how Frodo is similar to him in some ways. I don't think I've ever seen that quote before, and I've had to come back here and read it three times now! That was part of the alchemy that made us all fall in love with both hobbit and actor, I guess, the way the two blurred together, even in Elijah's mind.
I love that quote too - he has, of course, made many references to the similarities between him and Frodo, but this was one of my favourites. And I love how he acknoweldges that Frodo will always be a part of him - even during one of the Happy Feet interviews he said (of Frodo) "I hold the character close to my heart".
Thanks so much, Not Alone. I've been patiently anticipating this next part. You know, I enjoy watching the actual Extras, but I almost enjoy what you have done here more, as much, anyway. They go by so fast, it's nice to be able to read and look at my own pace, scroll back up, scroll back down. You've done an impressive job again, choosing pictures and text that make for one satisfying experience.
I didn't know about their foot-pampering at the end of the working day. It sounds absolutely lovely. I adore having my feet massaged or bathed, but it has hardly ever happened to me. If I were wealthy, I'd have it done often, like other people have massages or have facials applied.
I think it's great that the filmmakers arranged to have this done: good for the actor's health, of course, but also a compensation for that hour-and-a-half every morning. The stunties and extras didn't get this sort of treatment, I am sure. There are *some* compensations for being a leading role, ey?
but I almost enjoy what you have done here more, as much, anyway.
Wow!! That is praise indeed:)
I have never had my feet massaged but I should imagine it is a very pleasant experience. Although the filmmakers worked the actors very hard, they did pay special attention to their welfare. I remember reading that they made sure their diet contained plenty of vitamins and nutrients to keep them healthy.
Thank you once again for your kind comments Mechtild - glad you're still enjoying this:)
Thank you so much, Pauline, for this wonderful post. The journey back to the beginning is marvellous, the pictures, the quotes, your comments ... it's a labor of love, no doubt! Thank you again for this precious gift.
"And the result of all these ministrations – the perfect, and very beautiful, incarnation of Frodo Baggins of the Shire. I’m sure Tolkien would have been delighted."
One of the things I love about doing this is resdiscovering quotes and pics I'd completely forgotten about. Each chapter is preceded by a scramble through the heaps of stuff I've saved over the past (almost) 5 years as my filing system is non-existent - but it's a most enjoyable chore:) So glad you're enjoying the results:)
Once again, many many thanks & hugs to you for all the work you've done on this wonderful Journey with Frodo! :-) I have so enjoyed wallowing in all the nostalgia ... and I have my doubts that anything else will come along in my lifetime that will have quite the same amazing impact on me.
I had seen some of these pics before, though not all of them. There's this fantastic kind of "twilight zone" inbetween their movie selves & their RL selves, and I love to explore that! Imagine eating breakfast cereal whilst wearing pointy ears!! Or wandering around in your Frodo wig & makeup, but wearing an ordinary jumper!
Let's face it -- Frolijah as he was then is just perhaps the most heavenly creature on earth *sigh* And that look on his face when he was just about to hug Sean -- it's says so very much, doesn't it?
Many thanks for your kind comments - so glad you're enjoying this. I agree - I've probably lived a lot longer than you, but in all those years nothing and no-one else has had this sort of impact on me, and I know it never will. Frolijah is the most beautiful creature ever to walk the earth, and I am just so thankful for him. I agree about the look on his face when he was about to hug Sean - they had such a special bond, it was/is beautiful to see.
Yaye! Another installment! I so love the way you have put this together.
The part "got my feet got my ears, got my dirt..." I never tire of watching it. He was so beautiful (still is!).
One thing I always wondered about - such careful wig and makeup application on the day, yet to get into costume he would have to pull his Tshirt over his head? Isn't that like a bride forgetting to wear a something easily removed so as not to disturb her makeup and hair?
You've done some great work here. Can I friend you?
"The part "got my feet got my ears, got my dirt..." I never tire of watching it."
Same here!! It's just adorable:)
I'd never thought about him having to take his t-shirt off over his wig & make-up - I can understand them not wanting him to wear his shirt etc until the very last minute to prevent them getting dirty - but it must have been very difficult.
