It's funny but when I was a young girl, I bit my toenails a few times, too! I was amazed that I could bring my feet up to my mouth. I don't know when that flexibility went away, but it'd kill me to do it now. : D
I wonder if he still does this? It must be horrible to be that anxious.
Ummmm...I used to do this when I was MUCH younger (**BLUSH**)-- and, despite all the old age/arthritis/out-of-shapeness, I can ALMOST manage it now --
I am absolutely appalled by how inflexible young people are these days -- when my kids were working on high school shows (only about 3 years ago), I was much more flexible than most of the teens I worked with on stage presence and vocal production
I've never been very flexible but I did have an excuse - I was born with a dislocated hip which caused a load of problems. I don't think children have as much physical training in school as they used to:)
"How on earth can biting your toenails not be a "conscious" act?"
Well, if you've got to remove shoes and socks first, then it's got to be a conscious thing, but if his feet are already bare I can sort of understand the need to stray there when there's no fingernails left!!
