Like many others, I'm really disappointed to hear that Elijah will no longer be taking part in 'The Experiment'. Understandably, there is much speculation flying around and I must admit at first I was quite mystified. Only a 4-week shoot, just days away from starting - what could the scheduling conflict possibly be? I've even seen a few "He'd better have a good excuse" comments here and there including, I kid you not, someone who actually said "Someone better be really ill"! How charming. Anyway, at first I decided the most likely explanation had to be something to do with 'The Passenger' - Elijah is so passionate about this project (and because he is, I'm trying to be) that I feel he'd give this priority over anything else - but it did seem to be a huge co-incidence that, after waiting all these years for it to get off the ground, it would suddenly come up just now. However, I have now read the following quote by sssneaking on another LJ,and although she stresses that she is only speculating, I really feel this is the most likely and most believable explanation:
"I suspect what has happened is that he had some already set up commitments (maybe 9 related). The Experiment had an original set of shooting dates that were fine and The Experiment production company knew when he would and would not be available (getting actors for movies involves loads of juggling the windows that various actors can make the shoot).
However, the film could have slipped schedule a bit. First mentions were shooting in the start of July, now it's the middle for instance and that's only what we know about (it could originally have been down to shoot earlier). Or the order they were shooting locations has changed now they are firming up the details and the ones he is needed for are now later. So maybe he doesn't have a window to do the film any more. The production company would have been aware of this happening as they had to move their dates and that he'd have to quit the project if it didn't get started on time.
That type of thing happens all the time with movies, especially indie movies (where they have to do the shoot when everything comes together and can't wait for the ideal set of actors that they originally wanted to be available to do it).
Anyway: I don't think something has come up for Elijah, I think the new film drifted into a clash with an existing schedule that he can't get out of."
Nothing dramatic, just the everyday realities of the movie-making world, but it makes a lot of sense. In a way, this is even more disappointing because it would mean that it's nothing to do with an exciting new project:( Elijah honey - I love that you're involved with '9' and producing 'Black Wings' and other things - but we need to see your face up there on the big screen again - please!!
It's almost over here - but Happy Froday anyway!!
